We built PrivateView because we believe that online tracking and profiling has gotten out of hand. Some of the most sensitive information about you can be gleaned by tracking and storing the sites that you visit. This data can then be packaged and sold to third-parties for purposes that are not clearly disclosed.
For example:
- Insurers are allowed to significantly increase medical premiums based on medical conditions. If you visit a website to learn more about symptoms or a medication and that website uses Google or Facebook services, then that information can be stored in a profile to be used by advertisers to unfairly discriminate against you. When you use PrivateView, the website will not be able to link that visit to you.
- Businesses like banks and lenders are using precision targeting tools to exclude consumers based on age, gender, race, ethnicity, income, and zip code in a new form of digital redlining. This is a form of invisible discrimination that takes place behind the scenes, and you would never know about it. When you visit a website directly, it is highly likely that Google or Facebook has already created a shadow profile of you that influences the type of advertising that you see. When you use PrivateView, that profile data is unavailable to advertisers, and you will see unbiased advertising.
PrivateView is just the latest way that PrivacyWall fights the surveillance capitalism business model.
